Thanks to the concern of a Cooper Young neighbor about her neighbor’s overgrown yard, the “Yard-A-Month” project was born, led by Mike Larrivee, Beautification Chair and garden club member. The purpose of the program is to help elderly and disabled neighbors reclaim their beautiful yards.
Each month, a garden is chosen based on need. Then a date is set, and a call goes out for all neighbors to come give a hand. With shovels, rakes, trash bags, and a talkative crew, the work begins. A few hours later, magic has taken place. The homeowner’s joy and relief soon wash away any sweat or tiredness felt, and everyone goes home feeling happy they could help.
