Yard of the Month: Grandparents grow garden spot on Young
By Libby Flynt
For the first time since I’ve been in charge, our Cooper-Young Yard of the Month was nominated by my neighbors! So thank you, neighbors, for keeping an eye out and appreciating these beautiful yards.
Sal and Georgene Cachola moved from Montana to 2093 Young in 2009 to be near their grandchildren. Their house had been renovated, so Sal started with nothing but a few weeds in his yard. With the generous help of a neighbor, they started with zoysia and trees. In the front yard are Vitex (Chaste tree), Katsura tree, and two Sky Pencil Hollies. The hedges are an amalgam of Japanese holly, euonymous and arbor vitae shrubs.
In the aprons surrounding the two trees are Nandinas, monkey grass, black eyed susan, azaleas, evergreen ferns, hydrangeas, echinasea (cone flower).
I hear their backyard is just as cool and that their festival parties are legendary!
