This year’s Cooper Young Garden Walk theme is all about sustainable gardening, planting for pollinators, and embracing native plants. Visitors can:

–hear noted native plant expert/author, Dr. Doug Tallamy, discuss the importance of using natives in the landscape (Saturday, May 19, 9am-10am, 1000 S. Cooper)
–hear local horticulturist/native plant guru, Chris Cosby, discuss “Specific Native Plants for Specific Places”, (Sunday, May 20, 4-5pm, 1000 S. Cooper)

–visit native plant demo gardens and hear mini-talks by master gardeners

–talk to representatives from:
TN Native Plant Society–
Urban Forestry–best native trees for the Mid-South
Nonconnah Creek Conservancy–fern give-aways
Clean Memphis–pollinator literature
Storm Water Memphis
Tennessee Federation of Garden Clubs, District 1–Finding a garden club in your area

–visit the Peabody Elem School garden and find out what pollinator hotels are

–see native plants/trees labeled throughout the neighborhood

–learn about beekeeping and favorite pollinator plants

–learn what plants are invasive and what are better choices
